Poker: WCOOP Event #32 update

wcoop2012

Despite it being my favourite game on my WCOOP 2012 schedule, sadly I didn’t manage to win a seat in Event #32 8-Game  Sad smile

The financials are a bit bleak:

Event Buy-in = $320
Cost of attempting entry = $95 (4x satellites)
Profit/Loss = -$95

It is very disappointing not to make it through the sats, but it doesn’t make financial sense to keep trying.  My third attempt was closest, and did feel I should’ve done better than a min cash in that game, but it seems it was just not meant to be for me in this event this time.

Will doubtless seek solace in either the 8-Game cash or maybe find some other MTT to take part in Smile

Poker: WCOOP #11 results

wcoop2012

At last, it's time for my first WCOOP game !   After securing my seat, I’ve been looking forward to the actual event itself.

It's a bit daunting to see 2159 players and know it could all be over in 5 mins, or last until the early hours (and continue tommorow night if I get lucky!) but am up for the challenge and will give it my best shot.   Having played HU SCOOP last year, I kind of know what to expect as well.   256 places pay out so got some work to do...

First round starts at 19:00 and once again I get lucky and do not get an opponent, so through to round 2 already :)

Starting stack is 5000 and with 10 minute levels, there is going to be a fair amount of play each round, so happy to be able to skip the first round.

Level 2 starts at 20:15 with 2048 players.   Finished 20:35 winning after a solid performance, quite comfortable in the end with never going below starting stack.  Opponent was aggro pre flop and on the flop, but was capable of betting turn then folding to reraise, which I did quite often :)   Glad to get through for sure.... roll on the next level, but it's gonna get tougher for sure.

Level 3 has 1024 players and start match at 21:45  My opponent is a lot more aggressive and I'm getting a bit beaten up.   Manage to fight back a bit, but sadly don't last all that long and am knocked out when my 9-8 is overcome by 5-4 after about 10 minutes, after T-8-5 flop was followed by 4 on the turn and 2 river when the money went in (I was a bit short stacked by then as well)     Was outclassed for sure, but didn't get much luck either.

Was a bit disappointed to be out on the second match, but was quite fun overall.   Hopefully can do better in my next WCOOP game on Saturday

Can't complain too much on the financial side though:

Event Buy-in               =  $215
Actual cost of entry =    $0
Cash won             =    $0
Profit/Loss          =    $0

Poker: Financial results for August 2012

financialChart

Plan

My monthly targets are:
- Play 600 hands of cash on NLHE $0.50 Full Ring, 700 cash hands on PLO $0.50 6-max, all with target of breaking even
- Play 20 NLHE STT hoping for +10% ROI

Monitor

Overall results for the month:-

Pokerstars      :  -$ 199.81
Black Belt Poker:  -$ 257.97 (-£162.63)
Live play       :  -£ 176.87

Overall a horrendous looking month, and to be honest it is :)  although not quite as bad as it seems...

August was another one of those "funny" months, with holidays, new hobby taking up an evening during the week and a touch of man flu at the end of the month, all made it seem disjointed again.   It's difficult to keep a steady Poker rhythm in the summer with so much going on !

The live games were my normal Casino trip to the £35+5 game, but also BBP DTD Live II.   BBP was a great weekend away and actually my longest run in a BBP live event.  Written about it here already (http://sceaga.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/holiday-nottingham.html) so won't dwell too much.   The normal Casino game also saw me have a decent run, but a bad beat did a lot of damage from which I never recovered.

Pokerstars had more activity than normal, with my two new projects.... the WCOOP (http://sceaga.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/poker-wcoop-2012my-poker-project-for.html) and also EPT aspirations (http://sceaga.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/poker-ept-season-9-adventure.html)

My 8 Game cash is still pretty steady, showing $1.17 profit for the month.   This was despite one heavy losing session on the $4 tables early in the month, so recovered well in the end.

My WCOOP activities have seen $131 "invested" into satellites with two events secured (worth $324)  My WCOOP activities are all next week, so will report back separately.  Overall though, a good investment I feel

The EPT is a more speculative "investment", having spent $125.60 chasing the dream so far.    EPT Sanremo is no longer in consideration, so will be trying to qualify for EPT PCA (Jan 2013) later in the year

I also had time to mess around with a couple of other MTT tourneys, which actually netted a $55.62 profit, when I fluked 2nd place in a 5 draw Pot Limit tournament !   Was a lot of fun though.

Rolling 3 month total for 8 game cash is -$138.56, again due to the heavy loss in June... next month should shoot back up hopefully !

8 Game wins/losses by game type for August:
2-7        +70.50
Limit HE   -20.98
Omaha HL   -50.90
Razz       -14.50
Stud        -9.66
Stud HL    +22.46
NL HE      +21.47
PLO        -17.22

Razz and Limit HE seems to give consistent losses for me, with the other disciplines being a bit up and down.   Will be interesting to see if I can get more consistent in these areas.

BBP results break down as follows:

Cash results (-£81.15 overall)
NL Hold' em ($0.50)  114 hands   +£99.05
PLO         ($0.50)  363 hands  -£190.92
PLO8        ($0.20)  103 hands   +£10.72

Tournament Results (-£81.48 overall)

7x  MTT            -£3.53
2x   2 seat STT   -£20.06
5x   6 seat STT   -£43.87
1x  10 seat STT   -£14.02

Reflect

For Pokerstars, I'm still happy with my 8 game cash, but still got a lot of work to do on some areas.  These areas seem to change from month to month, but Razz and Limit HE seem to be definite areas where I need to focus now.  The EPT and WCOOP have been pleasant distractions, but have taken up some of my resources.

For BBP, I have been distracted this month (again) and feel like I am lacking focus and discipline at the moment.   I have my moments, but am nowhere near being consistent.   The low level of sessions/hands played shows by how much I am losing the plot.  Although the actual numbers for my monetary results are pretty poor, the Omaha cash results were down to around 5 bad hands (some of which I should have won :) ) and the STT results are meaningless with the number played so can't really read to much into the one month.

Looking back, I've been moaning about being distracted by outside events since May, so really need to focus on... getting focused :)

Having said that, September will definitely be another bitty month, as have got holidays, two weeks of bedroom re-fitting and WCOOP to deal with !!   Fingers crossed.....

Adjust

- Try to get back to my normal routine and get some more volume in
- Study more on Razz and Limit Hold' em to improve 8 game cash results
- Keep studying Omaha and Omaha HL
- Rework Poker schedule as will miss Tuesday nights going forward

Performance against 2012 targets

* Keep to my revised Poker Plan
Didn't quite achieve all the numbers for Cash games in August

* Play BBP London Live and UKIPT Brighton tournaments
Played two BBP Live events this year

* Aim for break even month on month on all cash tables
NLHE near enough, PLO OK apart from odd poor month!, PLO8 inconsistent!

* Use learning tools and resources to learn and improve my NLHE, Omaha and PLO8 cash and tournament play
Am putting in the effort to do some learning.

* Avoid entering any BBP grading process !
Managed it this month :)

* Win a BBP league :-)
Looks like will be consistently missing Tuesday nights going forward

Poker: WCOOP 2012–Event 18 seat

wcoop2012

I was happy to get my first event bagged up early on, in my quest for glory in WCOOP 2012.. but have also now got myself a cheap seat in event 18 as well Smile($109 No Limit Hold’em – $750’000 Guaranteed)

My first attempt was $38 Hyper Turbo 6-seat STT in which I bubbled (bad beat as well Sad smile )  so then tried a more traditional $5 MTT but didn’t get close finishing, being 31st from 74.   My latest attempt was another $38 hyper-turbo and was successful this time Smile

I didn’t get anything playable for a couple of rounds, which turned out good in some ways as there was someone all-in pretty much every hand.  We were down to 4 players by the time I shoved, but managed to double up.   Held tight again and got another double up, then finally shoved into the short stack with KQ when down to three players and he called with JT and I took him out.  In this format, the top 2 get a seat, so job done for a total of $76.  Not a huge saving on the $109 entry, but still felt good to win the seat…

I’m no longer going to try for Event #19 (same day as Event #18) and am now on holiday for the second week, so am only left with Event 38 $320 8-game to try and satellite into.

Can’t wait for the start of the games themselves now….

Poker: EPT season 9 adventure

ept-9-header

You know how it is… you review the EPT schedule for the new season and start thinking “well, I could attend those dates in Sanremo….” and before you know it, you’re planning which PokerStars Satellites to register for !!

Yes, I have decided to add an EPT entry to my Poker objectives Smile

With the poor schedule of the UKIPT tour this year, I have tried dabbling with EPT qualification before, with both the PCA and the EPT London events

This time round, I am going to probably try two or maybe three of the 33 Euro feeders for each event I am interested in.

There are currently satellites running for EPT Sanremo (Oct 2012), so that is first on my list…. then will probably try later in the year for EPT PCA (Jan 2013), EPT London (Mar 2013) and maybe even EPT Grand Final in Monaco (May 2013)   I’m sure the other locations are delightful, but will need to restrict myself to a sub set of events, else my bankroll will disappear to quickly !

Just hope I am not overstretching myself, but may as well take a punt at it, as would certainly be a huge deal for me just to attend!

Poker: WCOOP 2012–Event 11 seat in the bag

wcoop2012

Having set out my target events, the first satellite I played was for a seat in Event WCOOP-11: $215 NL Hold’em [Heads-Up, $250K Guaranteed]

As it happened, the sat entry was 400 FPP (Frequent Player Points) rebuy, so is effectively a free entry from my point of view.  I ran like God and not only had A-A 4 times, and numerous other premium hands, but was hitting flops all over the place as well !    I did need a second buy-in but by the break was chip leader by some margin so didn’t need the add-on.

Being a turbo event it was never going to last long, but we went from 21 runners down to 2 in about an hour.  The heads up battle saw me with 2:1 chip deficit and about 20 BB so it was always an up hill struggle, but my opponent was over aggressive and in the end I had the 2:1 chip lead.  The final hand was lucky for me, when the villain shoved for 10 BB from button and I decided his range was so wide could call with J-7… his A-K was way ahead but 7 on the turn was enough to see me take the seat directly into the event.    Woooohooo Smile

Just hope that is not my “one time” used up !    Roll on the next satellite and hope I get some more run good….

Poker: WCOOP 2012–my Poker project for September !

wcoop2012

Its been a while since I last played a WCOOP event, September 2009 to be exact… mainly because the buy-ins are to big for me so have to satellite in

The WCOOP 2012 schedule was published a week or so ago, so have decided to target some events for trying to satellite into.

The events that I want to play in, and can make the dates for are:

Event Date Time (UK) Description
11 Wed Sep 05 19:00 $215  NL Hold'em Heads-Up
18 Sat Sep 08 16:00 $109  NL Hold'em **
19 Sat Sep 08 18:00 $320  NL Hold'em **
32 Wed Sep 12 19:00 $320  8 Game
41 Sat Sep 15 20:00 $320  HORSE
48 Tue Sep 18 16:00 $320  Mixed NL Hold'em/ PLO
54 Thu Sep 20 11:00 $320  NL Hold'em

** would play one or the other.. not both !

My key events are really the 8 game and the HORSE as really enjoy these events and have some previous success to boast of Smile but would be happy to get into any of the above events, provided can be done cheaply!

Holiday: Nottingham

Having decided to play the Black Belt Poker Nottingham Live II event at Dusk Til Dawn (DTD), it was inevitable we were going to incorporate visiting my sister and general few days off into the equation.

bbp-bbll-hompage-nottingham-live-2-live-update

We booked into the City Centre Premier Inn (London Road) after a leisurely drive up Thursday afternoon.    It was lovely and sunny, but unfortunately they do not have air conditioning, so the room was a bit warm!   Otherwise was very comfortable and about what you would expect for the price

IMG_0985

The main attraction of this particular hotel was it’s proximity to the city centre, which we took advantage of soon as we checked in.   Nottingham seems to have a lot of decent shops, cake shops and several casino’s, night clubs, etc… so lots to see and do.     Thursday night was spent at my sisters who cooked a lovely dinner.  Didn’t stop to late though as had “work” to do on Friday.

IMG_0987

Friday we had huge breakfast which lasted me the whole day !   Lee joined us at the hotel about midday, then it was time to drop Lynn at my sisters for a girly shopping day, while Lee and I went to check in at DTD for the Poker.      The Poker started at 2pm and was very well run event.  The structure was pretty good,  but was a shame we had so few runners on the first day.    Despite that, I had a decent game and managed to knock out a bounty player with my A-K v As-Js and earned $100.   Later on I got involved in a couple of hands when trying to be more aggressive and ended up calling all a 4 bet all-in with A-Q but was against Q-Q   I failed to hit my A and was knocked out around 9pm.   It was the longest I’ve lasted in a BBP game though, so an improved performance than previous attempts Smile

Saturday was our anniversary.   We spent to day in the City Centre walking around the shops and eating cakes.    Then went out for a lovely meal with sister and husband at Browns.

Sunday we woke up late!! then went to my sisters again.    Had a long walk in country park, then had leisurely BBQ which was very nice and relaxing.

Monday we had another huge breakfast before having to drive home, but was easy journey so no problem.

Even though I didn’t do great at the Poker, the whole long weekend worked out well, so was a great success and very much enjoyed by all.

Poker: Home Tourney–August 2012

PokerChips

Having set everything up and just about to start the clock, a minor emergency at home meant I had to dash back and sort it out, but was back before the end of the first level.   Sitting back down, started to wonder why I bothered as a run of unplayable cards followed for a couple of rounds.

The normal adventures soon followed, when my A-T hit Axx flop and managed to persuade Bill and Andy to call a decent size bet on the flop.  The blank turn looked good for me, so got it all in but Bill hit his flush draw on the river (of course) and it was a double buy in for me

It was fairly quiet after that until the last hand before the break, when I raised A-J, Jon shoved his short stack and Lee called.   Being quite short myself, and the last buy in upon us, decided to go all in as well.   Lee had A-J as well and we ended up chopping when Jon didn’t hit with his junk hand.  At the break the average was around 5.8k and I was on about 3.8k

The first hand after the break saw the first casualty as Steve W got the wooden spoon by Alex.    The next hand saw Andy go by Bill and five minutes later we have our final table when Sean is busted, wow that was quick !

Jon is the short stack on the final table and has the Big Blind as well, but a few hands in it is Bill who gets his chips in bad and is next out and off to the pool table.

I’ve been nursing a shrinking stack, but although I can’t remember the hand, managed to triple up to give me over 10k chips with the average around 8k

Darren had been sitting quietly with a small stack for a while, but wasn’t able to maintain his momentum from previous months and was out in 7th.

I got a decent run of cards, and also got a little more aggressive and managed to start taking down some pots to chip up a little, but Jock was also applying the pressure and took out Karen.

My key hand was in the SB against Lee in the BB.  Blinds were 2k/1k by now and we both had around 15k stacks.  Folded to me with Qc-7c so decided to raise to 5k, hoping for the blinds really but Lee shoved.   I took a few moments to think it over, but knew I was calling with Lee showing 3-3   Sadly for me, I didn’t hit anything and I was still in the game, but with only 100 chips !

With me rooting for him, Jock took out another player when Alex shoved over his raise with A-J but Jock’s 4-4 held

I managed to triple up then double up in the blinds, but the miracle come back didn’t get off the ground when my 5-6 in the SB was overcome by the puny 4-3 of Lee in the BB when he hit his 3.   At least I got my money in good Smile

Jock had a big chips lead but the battle for 2nd was furious.  The chips were flying around, but in the end Jon was busted by Lee

With only three hands left to play, Lee’s chip deficit was too much to overcome and Jock took a well earned victory

wp all and see you all next time

Poker: Financial results for July 2012

financialChart

Pokerstars      :  +$  35.28
Black Belt Poker:  -$  89.18 (-£58.26)
Live play       :  -£  40.00

July was disjointed again, with Holidays and hectic days at work impacting my Poker schedule so I didn't play as much as I would have liked.....

On PokerStars I didn't even manage any STT, but had another quick session of Budugi but dropped $6.25  I'm not sure I'm that excited by Budugi as a game, so probably won't bother again.    The bulk of my play as always was 8 Game cash...  6 sessions of $2 saw a profit of $41.53 which puts me back on track

Rolling 3 month total for 8 game cash is -$118.05, due to the heavy loss in June :(

8 Game wins/losses by game type for July:
2-7        -37.53
Limit HE   - 2.04
Omaha HL    20.83
Razz       -25.82
Stud         5.97
Stud HL    -55.67
NL HE       23.55
PLO        112.24

My 2-7 was a bit surprising, but overall happy with this game... Stud HL is a real weak area though, so must improve there.

Live Play was just the normal trip for the £40 entry game, and didn't cash.  Felt I played well, despite feeling quite tired and almost falling asleep half way through !

BBP results break down as follows:

Cash results (+£ 2.88 overall)
NL Hold' em ($0.10)   74 hands    +£7.59
NL Hold' em ($0.50)  530 hands   +£12.87
PLO         ($0.50)  412 hands    +£5.23
PLO8        ($0.20)  100 hands   -£22.81

Tournament Results (-£61.14 profit overall)

2x  MTT           -£24.73
1x   2 seat STT   +£ 6.04
4x   6 seat STT   +£ 1.50
8x  10 seat STT   -£43.95

Reflect

I'm fairly happy with my 8 game, but still got a lot of work to do on some areas.

For my BBP efforts, the MTT expense was mainly my attempt to qualify for Notts Live, which I failed to do via the satalittes, but have already bought in directly anyway.   The NLHE $0.10 was a first attempt at Speed Poker.  It was OK, but was tricky to keep concentration and not sure I've got a good strategy.  Overall, it was fun, but not sure I would want to do that very regularly.... made me dizzy :)

My other results are pretty OK, with the exception of the PLO8 but that was 2 bad hands to drop about 1.5 buy-ins.  Still need to work on that game to get better consistancy.

Adjust

I need to spend time studying Stud HL and Omaha HL in August, but the main event will be the BBP Live in Nottingham :)  I am playing the Friday, having a rest day on the Saturday (happens to be my aniversary as well !)  then hope to be playing on the Sunday as well.

Other than that, will try to get back to my normal routine and get some more volume in

Performance against 2012 targets

* Keep to my revised Poker Plan
Didn't quite achieve all the numbers for Cash games in July, due to fragmentation

* Play BBP London Live and UKIPT Brighton tournaments
Looking forward to the BBP Live event at DTD :).

* Aim for break even month on month on all cash tables
NLHE near enough, PLO near enough, PLO8 inconsistant!

* Use learning tools and resources to learn and improve my NLHE, Omaha and PLO8 cash and tournament play
Am putting in the effort to do some learning.

* Avoid entering any BBP grading process !
Managed it this month :)

* Win a BBP league :-)
New league this week, but will have to sit out :(   Might miss quite a few now, but fingers crossed....

Holiday: Bognor Regis 2012

After last years trip to Bognor, it worked so well for us we decided to go back to the same apartment for a holiday this year as well.   Although we’re only down for 8 days, as with last year I will be having to “work from home” 3 days.

Friday 6th July

Hoorah, first day of the holiday… so had breakfast in bed, up in time for elevenses, then had lunch in preparation for our journey…

Left for Bognor via Petworth for tea and cake stop.  Got to Bognor a bit early, so had walk as warm and bright.

Although we were pretty happy with the apartment last year, this year it has a new shower which was great and also a media server with lots of films on it…. as it turned out this was very useful.

IMG_0880 (View from our apartment window)

Went to Morrisons to stock up on grub and beer, unpacked, then popped out for dinner which had to be fish & chips as we were by the sea Smile

IMG_0882

Went to QEII pub for a quick drink. (About 50 yards away!) before returning to the apartment

Saturday 7th July

Woke up to a bright’ish day. Lynn got us breakfast in bed.   Out at 10am into windy drizzle, so headed to a cafe for our cup of tea.

Walked up high street as having a ‘shopping day’ today. Went back to flat for lunch. Did rest of high street, then had nice warm cup of coffee in pub.

IMG_0890

Decided to walk to Aldwick, weather turning wet, windy and wild, so stopped for a drink in pub and a game of pool. Then next door to the ‘Navigator’ for nice meal.

IMG_0892

Just had room for a beer at QEII where there was a D.J.

Sunday 8th July

Had breakfast in bed, but out of bed in time for elevenses. Quick walk to get some air and some baked beans for lunch, as was feeling quite full and bloated from the dining and drinking yesterday.

Surprisingly warm and sunny, sat on beach for 10 minutes, until the clouds came over.

IMG_0894(it was sunny some of the time!!)

Back to flat for lunch and to watch the British Grand Prix on TV.

Went to the local carnival, heavy rain shower but mostly sunny. After carnival had an ice cream, then cup of tea. We walked to Hotham Park.

IMG_0913

Back to the flat, looked up what was on the cinema, but decided to watch ‘Midnight in Paris’ (rom com) instead!

Monday 9th July

Lynn got us breakfast in bed. Cloudy but warm and no rain forecast so off to Chichester for the day, leaving about 10.30am.

Walked to the canal first, as in previous visits, after shopping we have been too worn out to be bothered.

IMG_0930

Walked through the city to the North to get to ‘The Bell’ for a well earned rest and lovely lunch.

IMG_0933

Had walk along city wall to West Gate. Walked around shops again before another rest and a cup of tea and (cake - Mike only!)   Left around 5pm after a full day of shopping!!

IMG_0935

Been reasonably bright all day, got back to Bognor and it was very sunny and warm!

Had tea, then stroll along promenade in wind and sun.  Spent 60p on pier amusements.

Watched another film ‘Friends with benefits’ (rom com) on tv as tired after all the shenanigans of the day

Tuesday 10th July

Lynn got breakfast in bed at 8.30am.

Looked sunny when first woke up, but when up and ready to go out at 10.15am, it was raining by now.

Walked along seafront, breezy but bright, had tea break and cookie at the ‘Lobster Pot’.

Went inland and found ‘The Fox’ for lunch as it was pouring with rain. Lovely lunch and free pudding so was full!!

IMG_0944

Walked to town, had a rest and cup of tea.  Bought some provisions, back to flat at 4.15pm.

Went to the Cinema and saw ‘5 Year engagement’ (another rom com), then a swift half in the pub before back to flat

IMG_0948

Wednesday 11th July

Work day for me today, so up at 7.15am, did exercises, got Lynn breakfast in bed (for a change) then work!

IMG_0949(I’m working hard)

Planned to go out for picnic lunch. Looked sunny all morning, started raining at 11.50am. Had lunch in, then a quick walk around the block but started raining again and we got soaked!

The afternoon was a mixture of sunshine and showers. Sun came out after work so went to the ‘Regis’ for dinner, but was very windy.  Had nice meal and I ordered 2 puddings as it was 2 for £2.00, but had to eat them both as Lynn didn’t want one Smile

Had a walk around town as still very windy on the promenade, got back to the flat and watched film on tv ‘I am number four’ (this time it was a sci fi), as work tomorrow.

Thursday 12th July

Woke to beautiful blue skies and calm conditions. Tempting to work on beach but sadly not practicable.

By lunch time it was cloudy and a bit chilly but went out for our picnic on the seafront, albeit in full wet weather gear Smile   Went to our sheltered spot by the Yacht Club and had relaxing lunch looking at sea.

IMG_0955(View from “our” bench when having lunch on the sea front)

Back to work in the afternoon and got Lynn to type up this blog again. That kept her occupied for a while!

Work is done for the day but the rain has set in. Decide to head for Weatherspoons for dinner as it is only a 5 minute walk away.   My Steak and Ale Pie was pretty good, but Lynn didn’t enjoy her “Superfood wholewheat pesto pasta” very much…

Had to walk to top of town, through park to seafront and got soaked. Back to room to watch a film ‘Inception’ (that’s 3 rom coms to 2 SciFi  this week, so not too bad a ratio)

Friday 13th July

Up for work as normal. Again a lovely sunny morning. Turned cloudy and very windy by lunchtime, but pretty warm and bright so had lunch on the promenade again.

After work still bright and sunny Smile  Headed out to ‘Lobster Pot’, had nice meal and then a long stroll back to apartment

Saturday 14th July

Woke up at 7.30am, got up. Left the apartment at 9.15am got home at 10.30am (only took 1½ hours, missed all the Farnborough Airshow traffic). Did weekly food shopping and had lunch.

Went to Hawley Fayre approximately 2.00pm for 1½ hours, I had cup of tea, sausage roll and 2 cakes as still in holiday mood Smile  It’s a bit muddy underfoot but at least it wasn’t raining…

As with last year, we thoroughly enjoyed the break down in Bognor and was able to merge some work with the holiday to get a longer break than would otherwise have been possible.   I can see us going back to Bognor again next year for a similar break (unless we buy a holiday place of our own of course !)

Poker: Home tourney - July 2012

PokerChips

I was away on holiday, but from what I heard was a great game

Jon’s night was depressingly short, being 3rd player out by Andy (as usual)   From Jon’s account, he raised pre with A-K and saw K-T-6 all hearts flop.  Jon shoves for about 8k into 2.4k pot and Andy calls with A-J, but hits Q on turn for straight.  According to Andy he called because “Queens had been good to him all night….” Smile

Sean related the end stages as being very exciting.  With 4 players left at the end of normal time, Sean was massive chip leader.  Daz tripled up with Str8 and Alex A-J held against Sean’s A-T to double him up.   Alex rivered his A-5 v’s Sean’s A-J to take Sean out in 4th.   In the end Alex took first, Andy was second and Darren came in 3rd

I’ll be there next month for sure, as don’t want to miss all the excitement again !!

Poker: Financial results for June 2012

financialChart

Pokerstars      :  -$ 173.26
Black Belt Poker:  -$  45.28 (-£29.58)
Live play       :  +£ 151.80

The summer months can get a bit fragmented, due to holidays, WSOP, and for June, trying to satellite into BBP Nottingham, so it's another slack month of Poker playing this month for me !!

On PokerStars I only managed 1x 8 Game STT, which I won for $8.95.  I also had one quick session of Budugi, just to see what it was like.  It's not a bad game, seemingly similar to 2-7 lowball, netting me -$0.95 for my experience.  The bulk of my play was 8 Game cash...  8 session of $2 saw a loss of -$105.65 and 2 sessions of $4 was a loss of -$75.61

Rolling 3 month total for 8 game cash is -$46.48

Although I missed a couple of sessions in these stats, I started analysing my results in more detail, so have identified my wins/losses by game type as below
2-7         19.07
Limit HE   -22.28
Omaha HL     7.29
Razz       -25.51
Stud       -62.83
Stud HL    -34.36
NL HE      -49.59
PLO         18.07

Fortunately my live Play was a little more successful, managing a 2nd place for profit of £151.80   This could easily have been a first place, but for a couple of cooler hands, but was lucky enough times on the final table to be overall very happy with the result.

Again this month, I played little on BBP, the results break down as follows:

Cash results (+£12.32 overall)

NL Hold' em ($0.50)  743 hands   -£11.00
PLO8        ($0.20)  161 hands   +£23.32

Tournament Results (-£41.90 profit overall)

10x MTT           +£ 2.30
2x   2 seat STT   -£ 0.70
3x   6 seat STT   -£ 6.72
6x  10 seat STT   -£36.78

Reflect

I've been spending my available time playing as many sats to BBP Live as I could find.... so considering that, I don't think I did too badly.   I got lucky in the BBP League game to take my MTT into profit, and didn't play enough STT to really get a good sample.   My BBP cash is still around break even for NL HE and even my PLO8 game was looking OK this month.    My 8 Game cash on PokerStars was a little disappointing.   At least now I have some firm facts on what I need to improve on.  My Stud is my weakest game, which I knew... but just didn't know by how much!   Stud HL is also pretty poor.   The other results are kind of OK...  with NLHE and PLO both being quite low hand volumes, I am hopeful those numbers will improve more over the coming months.    The Limit Hold' em was a bit of a surprise, but my sessions have tended to be a bit swingy, with both my $4 sessions being particularly poor.

Adjust

July will be more "normal", although plan to play at least one more BBP Notts Live sat... and am away for a week on hols.... OK, so might be a little down on my numbers again :)

Performance against 2012 targets

* Keep to my revised Poker Plan
Didn't achieve the numbers for Cash games in June, due to fragmentation

* Play BBP London Live and UKIPT Brighton tournaments
Looking forward to the next BBP Live event at DTD in August.

* Aim for break even month on month on all cash tables
NLHE near enough, PLO near enough, PLO8 getting there

* Use learning tools and resources to learn and improve my NLHE, Omaha and PLO8 cash and tournament play
Am putting in the effort to do some learning.

* Avoid entering any BBP grading process !
Managed it this month !

* Win a BBP league :-)
After six legs in League XV.   Currently 25th overall.   73 points away from 9th

Poker: Home Tourney–June 2012

PokerChips

Ten players took to the newly purchased purpose built Poker tables for the £10 special

The first two levels were fairly relaxed but I managed to drop down to around 2k from the 3k starting stacks.   Sean on my right got pretty low on chips, but  although I was ahead both times, managed to get him all-in but then he hit the flop and doubled up in quick succession.    At the break, no one needed their 2nd chance, so everyone had decent amount of chips as we recommenced.

Sean limped UTG.  Deciding I want to get it heads up, I make a pot raise and plan works as only Sean calls.   The Q-J-9 flop could be good for me, but then Sean leads out for 3/4 pot.   Dwelling up and considering the possible hands he could have, I convince myself he has me beat and show my A-A when folding.  Luckily he shows Q-J else I might have been thinking about that fold even now !

I’ve taking a bit of a pasting and am just below 3k chips, with average 6k.   I can’t remember the exact hand now, but Jock makes a min raise and I decide to defend my BB with something like Th-7h.  The flop came K-7-5 and I check then make a loose call on the flop, not thinking I’m ahead but hoping to improve or take the pot down.   Luckily I improve with T on the turn and decide to shove as it’s only just over the pot.   Jock calls with K-9 and the blank river doubles me up and puts me back in the hunt.

Soon after, I get into another confrontation with Sean, this time my A-x holds against Sean’s K-x and I’m looking in good shape now

Couple of hands later, Alex is busted out on the other table and we are down to our final table

With the average chips 7.5k, I have around 10k and am on the button.   Jock is one of the short stacks and limps UTG.  With it folding round to me, I nearly fold my Q-To but at the last minute decide to limp, along with Andy and Jon in the blinds.   The flop is all low and we all check round.   The T on the turn looks good for me, especially as it checks round again, so put out a bet.  Andy and Jon fold, but Jock shoves.   Whilst he could have me well beat, it’s not much more to call and am happy to see Jock has A-x and missed.  The river was also a brick, so I build up my stack and we’re down to 7 players

Things settle down for a while, but the blinds are getting significant now.

Jon is the short stack and shoves.  Andy in the blind dwells up and decides to call, showing 7-6h against Jon’s A-To   The first card out is a 6 and with nothing to help Jon he is taken out.  As Andy predicted, he wasn’t happy to be taken out in such a way either Smile

The chip average is now 10k and I have around 14k.   Lee has been fairly active recently, and makes another min raise from UTG.   I’ve got 6-6 and decide to 3 bet, but Lee shoves all-in and has me covered.    I was planning for him to fold with air, or call with A-x type hands, so believe he must have better pair and fold.   Lee shows A-A to my relief !

Few hands later I’m raising with A-x and Darren calls.   I miss the flop and he bet’s out so I have to believe I’m behind and fold again.  My stack has taken a beating just when it’s getting expensive, so am down to around 6k now,  about 10 big blinds, so am in shove or fold territory

Bill is the short stack now and the blinds have just gone to 1000/500 so he shoves his 2.8k UTG.   I’m on the button with 2-2 and decide that as Bill’s shoving range is pretty wide, and can afford to loose, it’s worth the risk to take him on, expecting a flip.   I need to isolate, so shove as well.   Sadly Darren doesn’t insta-fold and starts working out where he’s at.   In the end he decides to call and I know I’m in deep trouble….. confirmed when Darren shows T-T and Bill shows J-J      Bill’s Jacks hold up, tripling him up and Darren takes me out in 6th

The average stack is 12k and the blinds have gone up to 2k/1k.   It’s Lee who is short now and Blind vs Blind shoves on Bill who duly calls.  Lee’s A-x is way ahead of Bill’s 8-6 but Bill hits the flop and Lee is 5th place finisher

Bill and Karen clash, with Karen’s A-Q holding against Bill A-8, but a few hands later, Bill’s A-K is dominating Karen’s A-4h and Bill has got his chips back.

With short stacks and big blinds, Karen goes all-in pre flop, then Bill and andy get all-in on K-Q-Q flop.   Andy has K-x, Bill has flush draw and Karen need’s to hit A.   The Q turn takes Bill out, and the blank river gives Andy all the chips and we have Darren and Andy heads up again… and Andy has significant chip lead again….!!

The heads up battle is quite active, with lots of checking on flops and turns, then betting on the river, Andy was letting Darren in cheap who was hitting rivers and managed to double up, then take another big pot… allowing him to get the slight chip lead.       In the end, Andy has Qc-6s and Darren Th-8h with Q-T-x flop there is a bet and call…. the turn comes 8 and again a bet and call, then the T on the river has potential for flushes as well as full houses but Andy goes all-in and Darren gladly calls and takes another victory

Phew, it’s been a hectic and exciting game and am glad of the early finish Smile

Next month is 2nd Thursday due to holidays, so have a nice long rest and will see you next time

Poker: Financial Results for May 2012

financialChart

Pokerstars      :  +$ 110.36
Black Belt Poker:  +$ 144.07 (+£94.12)
Live play       :  +£ 0

May was always going to be about my Pokerstars SCOOP games.  I have already summarised my SCOOP activities, so won't repeat here.   In May itself, the SCOOP accounted for $110.36 profit and other activities gave $38.34 loss.   Out of these activities,  game cash was fairly consistant, providing $21.68 profit

Rolling 3 month total for 8 game cash is +$134.74

I played very little on BBP this month, for what it's worth, the results break down as follows:

Cash results (+£0.14 overall)

NL Hold' em ($0.10)  3 hands   +£ 0.14

This was just a test run for my newly purchased mobile broadband, so wasnt a serious session!

Tournament Results (+£93.98 profit overall)

3x MTT            +£ 65.57
2x   2 seat STT   -£ 13.09
1x   6 seat STT   +£  0.31
3x  10 seat STT   +£ 41.19

Reflect

May was always going to be SCOOP related, so not worried about the results really.  Definately had a great time playing all the games and it is always nice to cash in the big tournaments.   Had a lot of run good this month, so hope it follows through into next month as well !

Adjust

June is more or less back to my normal poker schedule, although will be trying to qualify through sats for Nottingham Live II

Performance against 2012  targets

* Keep to my revised Poker Plan
Didn't achieve the numbers for Cash games in May, due to focusing on SCOOP

* Play BBP London Live and UKIPT Brighton tournaments
BBP Live was fun, and am now excitedly looking forward to the next BBP Live event at DTD in August.

* Aim for break even month on month on all cash tables
NLHE near enough, PLO yes

* Use learning tools and resources to learn and improve my NLHE, Omaha and PLO8 cash and tournament play
Am putting in the effort to do some learning, PLO8 is the main worry at the moment but also need to improve PLO as well.

* Avoid entering any BBP grading process !
Managed it this month !

* Win a BBP league :-)
Reasonable start after two legs in League XV.   Currently 18th overall.
